VRUDDHANAGAR

A 200 years old Banian tree

VRUDDHANAGAR

The city of Anandapur became very old and at some stage people began to identify it as an old old city or Vruddhanagar. Vruddhanagar was a place of very old temples, streets, and houses. On the outskirts of it were a number of lakes. Surrounding the lakes were many old Banian trees. The city maintained its importance as a place of art and literature, music and drama, architecture and sculpture, and learning and trade. However, it stopped growing and several other cities like Vallabhi and later Patan became more eminent.
